Enterprise Payments Governance & Oversight Manager - Hybrid
We are seeking a dynamic Manager to define and implement the future of payments governance and oversight for the enterprise. The Enterprise Payments Governance and Oversight team sits within the Enterprise Payments organization in the Retail Bank and is responsible for governance and oversight of end-to-end core payments functions for all payment types across the enterprise, including monitoring.
About the role
In this role, you will be at the forefront of payments, developing solutions to remediate some of the biggest payments-related challenges while also seeking opportunities to further enhance existing business-as-usual practices. You will work closely with key stakeholders across the company to ensure a dynamic and well-managed payments ecosystem. This role offers high exposure across lines of business and the opportunity to work with Executives to shape and deliver a payments governance strategy and implement critical initiatives tied to the priorities of the Enterprise Payments organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead the transformation of payments risk management practices by blending strategic oversight with hands-on technical execution.
- Revolutionize oversight by providing thought leadership to evolve risk procedures for proactive risk identification and management, in alignment with Enterprise Risk Management (1st and 2nd line) teams.
- Architect and implement new procedures to enhance risk management frameworks.
- Drive digital transformation by utilizing Gen AI capabilities and automation tools to improve existing risk monitoring processes and operational efficiency.
- Define and oversee specialized risk management frameworks for cutting-edge payment rails, including Real-Time Payments (RTP), ACH, and wire.
- Partner with 2nd Line of Defense teams to seamlessly operationalize high-impact risk mitigation activities within 1st Line workflows.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive inventory of business processes that serve as the foundation for the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.
- Provide thought leadership on evolving processes to stay at the cutting edge of payments risk.
- Lead ad-hoc projects to enforce compliance and significantly upgrade processes to meet enterprise policy requirements.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or Military Experience
- At least 3 years of experience in risk management, audit, or governance
- At least 3 years of experience in the banking or financial industry
- At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal and external stakeholders
- At least 2 years of project or process management experience
- At least 2 years of experience using Google Suite or Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 5 years of experience in risk management
- At least 5 years of project management experience leading cross-functional projects and programs
- At least 1 year of risk analysis or data manipulation experience
- At least 3 years of experience managing senior stakeholders
- At least 3 years of experience working in payments
- At least 3 years of people leadership experience
- At least 4 years of process management experience
- Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) certification or Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP) certification
Skills
- Risk visionary with experience leading projects to uplift and manage operational risk management frameworks in financial services, including Issues & Event Management, Risk & Controls, and/or Cybersecurity/Technology Data.
- Deep analytical mindset with a passion for utilizing Generative AI, agents, and automation to enhance risk monitoring efficiency.
- Ability to identify trends and create narratives to communicate risk insights across stakeholder groups.
- Strategic influencer with exceptional communication and collaboration skills to drive change across diverse 1st and 2nd Line of Defense partners.
- Strong understanding of global payment processes, networks, and complex regulatory environments.
- Results-driven problem solver with project management skills, keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach to delivering critical goals and continuous improvements.
Pay
The annual salary range for this role is:
- McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400
- Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700
This role is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
Schedule
This role is hybrid, requiring about half of your working time in the office (West Creek 5 in Richmond, VA, or Center 2 in McLean, VA) and half working virtually.
