About the Role

English Instructors report directly to the Department Head and are responsible for providing high-quality instruction and academic support to students. The successful candidate will create and maintain an inclusive and productive learning environment, foster student engagement, and relate instruction to course objectives and practical applications of knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses through systematically planned and delivered instruction.
  • Design and develop curriculum.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide academic advisement.
  • Review and update courses and instructional materials.
  • Prepare syllabi and participate in curriculum and program development.
  • Incorporate instructional methodologies designed to enhance student success.
  • Maintain office hours and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Use student success data, course evaluations, and other assessment measures to support continuous improvement and teaching excellence.
  • Support student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Serve on college committees and participate in college and community service activities.
  • Engage in professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean and/or Department Head.
  • Teach in a variety of instructional settings, including online and dual enrollment/high school locations, at times and locations determined by the Department Head and designated coordinators.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in English or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in English.
  • Minimum of 18 graduate credit hours at the 500-level or higher with an ENG and/or LIT prefix (teaching methodology courses do not count).
  • Credentials must be appropriate for the assigned teaching discipline.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching college-level composition, literature, and technical writing courses at a two-year, open-access institution.
  • Experience developing and delivering instruction in traditional, online, and other instructional formats.
  • Educational development experience, including working with faculty and/or students on teaching and learning assessment initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Commitment to student success and ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and ability to adapt to evolving instructional technologies and learning environments.
