Engineering Technician, GS-0802-9/11/12 (43339)

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation for a permanent Engineering Technician position within the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division (LRD) - Pittsburgh District, with potential duty locations in Appleton, WI; Buffalo, NY; Huntington, WV; Louisville, KY; or Pittsburgh, PA.

About the Role

You will assist engineering staff in developing complex preliminary and final designs for mechanical or civil engineering features of navigation, flood risk management, recreation projects, and/or military infrastructure (e.g., barracks, maintenance shops, training centers, office buildings).

Responsibilities

• Develops, updates, and maintains complex/multi-disciplinary 3D models and details of drawing packages, including plan layouts, isometric views, and cross-sectional views of inland navigation locks, dams, and their appurtenances.
• Creates, modifies, deletes, transfers, copies, stores, and maintains 3D model files for civil works engineering features.
• Maintains thorough knowledge of and provides input on advanced ProjectWise workspace, CADD workstation hardware, CADD 3D, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, operational techniques, and standards.
• Functions as an advanced CAD/BIM modeler/senior technician, planning jobs, coordinating major complex drawing packages for construction, and reviewing the work of less experienced technicians.
• Mentors less experienced technicians and/or engineers in 3D modeling and drawing package development.
• Reviews As-Builts and systematically checks for discrepancies, anomalies, duplications, and non-conformance to AEC standards and Data Management Plans (DMPs).
• Serves on regional teams.
• Performs temporary duty travel (TDY) up to 15% of the time.

Requirements

To qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps). Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Qualifications

• GS-12: One year of specialized experience managing the implementation of critical design software; leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) processes, including standards, software, and multi-disciplined teams; integrating BIM/CADD into business practices; and proficiency in REVIT, Inventor, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Navisworks, MicroStation, and ProjectWise (or similar).
• GS-11: One year of specialized experience preparing project plans, specifications, or schedules; reviewing work for QA/QC; providing written/oral reports with recommendations; and developing advanced 3D models using CADD software.
• GS-09: One year of specialized experience utilizing CADD systems to prepare detailed plans for locks, dams, structural steel/concrete details, construction limits, quantity take-offs, and relocations; applying engineering methods and principles; reviewing plans and specifications; and performing geometric computations.
