Description Of Assignment/Duties

• Pittsburgh, PA - GS-09 – Engineering Technician (CADD)
  • CADD Operations & Modeling: Develop advanced 3-dimensional models of structural features using CADD software.
    • Utilize CADD systems to create, modify, and manage graphic files for project drawings.
    • Data Integration & Conversion: Convert various engineering and technical data into usable forms using CADD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) techniques.
    • Assemble and integrate information from sketches, notes, or verbal instructions.
  • Design Support: Provide computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) support for electrical and mechanical engineers.
    • Perform computations and review design criteria to ensure accuracy in final drawings.
  • System Maintenance & Training: Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of CADD system operations and software.
    • Train and assist other engineers and technicians in CADD software and procedures.
  • Documentation: Assist in preparing support documents for technical studies, specifications, and design submissions using office automation software.
• Nashville, TN - GS-11 – Engineering Technician (Civil)
  • Navigating & Waterways Management: Operates motorboats and performs assignments related to the navigation of waterways within the Nashville District, including the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers.
    • Surveying & Inspection: Serve as a team leader/crew lead for hydrographic survey crews conducting surveys of channels and obstructions.
    • Inspect dredging operations to ensure compliance with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Engineering & Design Support: Assist engineering staff in developing complex designs for structural features of navigation, flood control projects, and hydraulic systems.
    • Coordinate with the U.S. Coast Guard and other stakeholders on incidents at lock and mooring facilities.
    • Aid in preparing the annual budget for the Navigation Management Section by creating cost estimates for dredging, maintenance, and repair operations.
• Huntington, WV - GS-11 – Engineering Technician (Civil)
  • Complex Design & Drafting: From sketches, notes, or instructions, develop complete drawings of intricate structural items (reinforced concrete, steel, wood, etc.).
    • Develop advanced 3-dimensional models using CADD and/or BIM software.
  • Project Coordination: Plan, coordinate, and direct teams in the preparation of small and large complex drawing packages.
    • Review completed drawings for engineering accuracy and indicate necessary changes.
  • Technical Support: Assist engineering staff in developing complex preliminary and final designs for structural features of navigation, flood risk management, and military projects.
    • Prepare support documents for technical studies and specifications.
    • Independently review and coordinate Contract Technical Submittals (e.g., shop drawings) for accuracy and conformance with contract requirements.
    • Aid and train lower-graded technicians as needed.

• Applicant Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below.
• Experience Requirement For GS-9: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes making technical recommendations based on preliminary data interpretation and test results; converting various engineering and technical data and measurements into forms usable by engineers through use of computer aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
• Experience Requirement For GS-11: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing project plans, specifications or schedules; reviewing the work of others for QA/QC; providing written or oral reports with recommendations for modification, correction, or preventive maintenance; or developing advanced 3-dimensional models of mechanical or civil features using CADD software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

• Conditions of Employment: One-year probationary period may be required. This position requires temporary duty travel (TDY) up to 15% of the time. Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Position is designated as Non-Sensitive-No access security clearance.
