Engineering Technician
Location: Independence, MO
About the role
As an Engineering Technician in the Flex Pro Machine Shop, you will support Plant Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Facilities projects at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. This hands-on role is ideal for a skilled, self-motivated professional who can manage multiple priorities while helping improve equipment, facilities, and manufacturing performance in support of products for the U.S. military.
Responsibilities
- Operate various production equipment including BAM’s and other presses, V&O’s, Manurhin’s and other cartridge loaders, and other automation-integrated equipment.
- Program CNC mills, lathes, wire EDM, and sinkers (preferred).
- Use Auto Desk CAD software for reading, editing, and creating blueprints.
- Perform precision measuring using micrometers and calipers.
- Conduct routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or performing other preventive maintenance actions.
- Read and understand blueprints and military specifications.
- Briefly fill in to cover the production floor when supervision is not available.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine corrective actions using blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs.
- Prepare bills of material, specifications, and work orders.
Requirements
- Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD security clearance.
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years of hands-on experience working with and repairing industrial machinery.
- Solid mechanical aptitude, understanding of control systems, and ability to use hand and trade tools for repairs and maintenance.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills; ability to work closely with engineering staff.
- Able to work standing for an entire shift, lift up to 35 lbs., and work with energetic materials.
- Computer skills relevant to engineering work, including experience with Inventor or similar drawing programs, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Exposure to developing, creating, and implementing new processes.
- Ability and willingness to work any shift, including overtime as needed.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- U.S. citizenship required to meet government-facility access policies.
- Successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
- Access to ITAR controlled technical data, contingent upon approval of an export license by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
- Successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies.
Pay
$67,800 - $86,000
Schedule
4 – 10 hour shifts / Mon.-Thur. 6:00am to 4:30pm with overtime as needed.
