Engineering Tech IV
Position Summary
This position acts in a daily lead role, providing front line support to the engineering technician positions. Perform complex paraprofessional work in support of engineering or project management activities. This position, under general supervision, is responsible for more routine projects requiring basic project management skills. Provides support to the Engineering Technician Manager.
- Manage small professional service and/or construction contracts; track design and construction costs to be billed; reviews and approves invoices
- Apply local ordinances, design specifications, standards manual, etc. to private construction projects to ensure adequate infrastructure is constructed with minimal impact to the environment
- Conduct needs assessments
- Administer project related contracts
- Enforce local land use regulations
- Gather and compile information for contractors
- Interview customers to determine project requirements
- Write project specifications
- Analyze and resolve service requests
- Prepare cost estimates for project budgets
- Utilize a computer and specialized software applications and/or programs to generate reports, invoices, and/or maps
Essential Functions

Presentations provided to the team, internal, and external customers
Assist in assessing strengths and areas of growth across all Commercial Permit Tech team members
Develop training strategies for team, internal, and external customers
Maintain staff production reports
Experience
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the area of assignment.
Education
- Associate's degree in Engineering, Construction, Surveying, or Real Estate or related field
- Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?
Preferred Qualifications
- ICC Permit Technician Certification or a NC Standard Trade Certification
