Engineering Drafting Technician

About the role

Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) has an immediate opening for an Engineering Drafting Technician at the Palmyra, Missouri location.

Responsibilities

  • Help ensure critical transmission and substation projects are accurate, organized and moving forward.
  • Support drafting, design and documentation for transmission, substation, relaying, SCADA and related engineering projects.
  • Use AutoCAD, PLSCADD and related tools to assist with plan and profile drawings, substation plans, maps, standard detail and project drawings.
  • Update drawings, maps and engineering records as projects are designed, modified, completed or built.
  • Gather, maintain and analyze engineering data for, engineering studies, reports and project documentation.
  • Aid in equipment specifications, bid/proposal evaluations, bills of material, inventory information and asset records.
  • Support relaying, fusing, recloser coordination and related technical calculations as assigned.
  • Help maintain drafting standards, transmission standard details, structure/cable files and NERC compliance documentation.
  • Stay familiar with applicable utility standards and keep the Engineering Manager informed of progress, project needs and potential issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in CADD, Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology or a related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in CADD, mechanical drafting, engineering drafting or a related technical field.
  • Strong CADD/drafting skills, mathematical ability, attention to detail and document management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, technical information, oral and written instructions and legal descriptions of property.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, work independently and maintain accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Class E or equivalent driver’s license and ability to maintain required licensing and insurability.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent combinations of education, training and relevant experience may be considered.

Skills

  • AutoCAD, PLSCADD and drafting standards.
  • Electrical schematics, plan and profiles, survey plans, substation layout and design.
  • Electric utility terminology, transmission structures and lines, metering, relaying, SCADA and communication systems.
  • Design drawings and civil, structural, architectural or mechanical discipline drafting.
