Engineering Technician (Drafting)

About the role

We collaborate with American Indian Tribes to plan, design, and construct water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities.

Responsibilities

• Utilizing field notes from various sources to plot alignments, grade lines, and cross sections.
• Preparing individual site drawings, standard and non-standard details, building elevations, floor and ceiling plans, and topographic drawings.
• Performing field investigations of proposed project home site locations to gather information.
• Performing construction inspection and interpreting contract plans and specifications for community and individual water supply, wastewater ad solid waste facilities.

Requirements

• Conditions of employment: Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period, ESEP appointees typically serve a two-year trial period, U.S. Citizenship is required, Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959, Must have a valid State driver's license, Must have a viable bank account at a financial institution for electronic direct deposit of salary payment, Background Investigation Requirement: This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-09: Experience with uploading and sharing survey and design data for use in AutoCAD, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Hydraulic modeling software, preparing three-dimensional models of engineering designs using CAD software, construction cost estimating, and project management. OR Completion of two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the Engineering Technician such as, engineering, construction or industrial technology. OR A combination of specialized experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

• Salary is contingent on duty location.
• Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
• IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
