About the role

This position will be located in one of the identified locations and will involve working on projects related to water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize field notes from various sources to plot alignments, grade lines, and cross sections.
  • Prepare individual site drawings, standard and non-standard details, building elevations, floor and ceiling plans, and topographic drawings.
  • Perform field investigations of proposed project home site locations to gather information.
  • Perform construction inspection and interpret contract plans and specifications for community and individual water supply, wastewater, and solid waste facilities.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must have a valid State driver's license that is REAL ID-compliant.
  • IHS Selectees whose duties require them to work in an IHS healthcare facility must comply with the IHS Employee Immunization Policy related to vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • This may be a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. If required, the agency must ensure that persons hired have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must have a viable bank account at a financial institution for electronic direct deposit of salary payment.
  • This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants must present two valid forms of identification prior to appointment, with at least one being a REAL ID-compliant state-issued ID or driver's license.
  • This position requires a review of the applicant's financial history as part of the personnel security and suitability determination.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

  • Minimum Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
    • Experience with uploading and sharing survey and design data for use in AutoCAD, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Hydraulic modeling software.
    • Preparing three-dimensional models of engineering designs using CAD software.
    • Construction cost estimating and project management.
  • OR completion of two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the Engineering Technician such as engineering, construction, or industrial technology.
  • OR a combination of specialized experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

  • Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6, or 8 hours per pay period) based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
  • IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.
  • This position may be covered by a Bargaining Unit.
  • Recruitment or Relocation Incentives may be authorized, requiring at least a one-year service agreement.
