The Role

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Specific to this position:

  • Drafting blueprints
  • Supervising construction projects
  • Ensuring compliance with legal and environmental regulations
  • Planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of various structures and infrastructure, including roads and sewage systems
  • Cooking with consultants, contractors, and local enforcement agencies to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • The ability to work with a team or professionals from different disciplines
