Engineer-In-Charge

About the role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction's Division of Infrastructure seeks an Engineer-in-Charge to manage complex construction projects, lead constructability reviews, and ensure project compliance.

Responsibilities

• Manage and inspect construction projects to ensure adherence to agency and city standards.
• Prepare cost proposals and suggest design modifications.
• Coordinate with Resident Engineers, Office Engineers, and Inspectors.
• Engage in design and constructability review meetings.
• Oversee financial aspects such as payments, change orders, and time extensions.
• Oversee final inspections and project close-out procedures.
• Mentor new staff and provide regular updates on project progress.
• Address critical delays in meetings.

Requirements

• A four-year high school diploma or equivalent and five years of full-time construction project management experience.
• One year of experience as a Resident Engineer and knowledge of various construction contracts.
• Construction experience related to infrastructure work (roadway, sewer, water main).
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
• Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices.
• Primavera P6 scheduling and ENV SP credential (preferred).
• Valid driver's license.
• Personal vehicle (preferred).

Preferred Skills

• Three years or more as Resident Engineer experience.
• Construction experience related to infrastructure work.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

$83,743.00 – $99,607.00

Schedule

Full-time – 35 hours per week
