About the role
As an Electrical Engineer, you will work with several departments across different geographies to perform power system studies, including short circuit and equipment evaluation, overcurrent coordination and protection, arc flash, load flow, motor starting, power quality, and harmonic analysis. Using strong communication and project management skills, you will present study results to internal and external customers and help design cost-effective mitigation solutions.
Responsibilities
- Perform short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies for commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and generation facilities using SKM, ETAP, and/or Easypower software.
- Apply knowledge of low and medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, circuit breakers, panel boards, and disconnects to determine cost-effective mitigation solutions from study results and recommendations.
- Develop study reports and communicate results and recommendations to customers.
- Perform data collection activities.
- Develop and/or implement arc flash mitigation designs.
- Interpret new construction drawing packages.
- Develop relay protective setpoints and settings files.
- Develop and/or update equipment control schematics, one-lines, three-lines, and wiring diagrams.
- Work on project teams to support quality and project management goals.
- Meet project deadlines and support processes and procedures to ensure timely completion.
- Maintain up-to-date technical skills related to electrical substation design and protection and control schematics for the electric utility power grid through on-the-job work and formal training.
- Successfully execute small to medium-sized projects with limited oversight.
- Self-manage assigned projects and maintain job cost accountability to perform work within budgeted cost estimates.
- Effectively communicate with other departments and customers to ensure activities are properly coordinated.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited school.
- 4 or more years of experience performing power system studies and associated data collection activities for industrial customers.
- Experience with SKM software.
- Ability to work independently, accurately, and with high attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers.
- Strong computer skills.
