Engineer II - Non Nuclear Test - CLB

This engineering position supports Columbia-New Construction & PSA, involving all aspects of submarine new construction and direct technical support to Waterfront personnel at Electric Boat Groton, Newport News Shipyards, and Quonset Point Facility.

Responsibilities

• Participate in submarine Key Milestone Events (Motor Module, AC Light Off, Float-Off, Steaming, Reactor Compartment Closeout, Initial Criticality), Ship Certifications, and Sea Trials.
• Serve as a Joint Test Group (JTG) member managing the Hull Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) test program.
• Issue, update, and review new construction contractually required tests in collaboration with Electric Boat and Newport News Shipyard.
• Evaluate trade work to determine necessary retesting for system/component recertification.
• Issue and maintain configuration control of HM&E test procedures.
• Review HM&E and Non-Propulsion Electronic System (NPES) test procedures completed by trades.
• Provide troubleshooting and deck plate support for problems found during certification testing.
• Manage projects for Columbia Class Hulls through New Construction, PSA, and Technical Availabilities.
• Assist the Chief Test Engineer (CTE) in identifying retest requirements, at-sea or post deep dive tests, and Re-Entry Control (REC) closeout for Ship Certification.
• Support Sea Trials as part of the At-Sea test program.
• Collaborate with Electric Boat shipyard management, operations, engineering, quality personnel, ship’s force, SUPSHIP Groton, and NAVSEA.
• Support SSGR and NAVSEA Functional and Ship Specific Special Emphasis Program (SEP) Audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering (mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or marine disciplines preferred).
• 2-5 years post-graduate experience in submarine design, construction support, and/or testing.
• Experience with testing, test planning, test scheduling, and ship systems operation and/or maintenance.
• Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, Teamcenter, ELCADD, and government systems (CITIS, DFS, work deferrals, comprehensive problem reports, interactive test procedures (ITP), Engineering Reports (ERs), Change Requests (CRs), Change Notices (CNs)).

• Exposure to environmental attributes: cold, dry, dusty, fumes, hot, inside, noise, oily, outside, wet.

Overtime and weekend coverage is common to support execution of schedules and key events. Ship Safety (6010), limited radiation worker qualifications, and respirator training may be required for certain tasks.
