Engineer II & III

Work alongside EITs, Project Engineers, and Project Managers, learning how to design private sites and assist in the development of construction drawings, specifications, and construction contract documents for mixed-use retail, multi-family, warehouse, and single-family residential development projects within and outside Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs). Projects include paving, grading, drainage, water distribution lines, wastewater collection lines, and other related items.

Responsibilities

  • Apply standard practices and techniques in solving problems.
  • Conduct investigations and assist in the development of new concepts to solve unique problems.
  • Write technical reports, documents, and designs; produce oral/written presentations based on investigations and surveys.
  • Perform tasks of a larger scope and lead specific tasks within the project scope.
  • Interact collaboratively with team members, staff, and clients to accomplish organizational goals; provide ideas to improve efficiency at the group level; network within and beyond your technical peer group.
  • Supervise the work of Engineer I’s, designers, and interns.
  • Assist with engineering design functions under the direction of a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Understand agency design standards.
  • Participate on a design team in preparing design documents and cost estimates for minor to standard engineering designs.
  • Lead development of in-house designs for projects of moderate scope.
  • Assist in the oversight of construction projects.
  • Assist in preparation of project scope of work; maintain design and construction schedules and budgets.
  • Provide support throughout the project lifecycle and status updates.
  • Serve on committees as needed and monitor the professional development of designers.
  • Provide professional consultation to company personnel requiring engineering advice or direction.
  • Assist with analysis and evaluation of products for company use.
  • Provide input into the development and documentation of specific company design standards.
  • Set up base drawings with utilities following City and County standards.
  • Perform one-line design of utilities, roadways, detention, and grading for multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic design standards, including state and local regulations, and apply them effectively.
  • Research and locate correct information as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the EHRA QA/QC program.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of related experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • FE or PE license preferred.
  • Valid TX Driver’s License and ability to operate a motor vehicle may be requested.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of Civil 3D/AutoCAD software.
  • Knowledge of MUDs, communication skills, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to follow directives from the Project Manager, set priorities, and assist in preparing project schedules.
  • Willingness to work on multiple projects in a team-based environment focused on timely delivery of quality projects.
  • Strong communication with team members, clients, and governmental agencies.
  • Intermediate knowledge of agency criteria.
  • Attention to detail in completing work tasks.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to construction areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
