Engineer I Market Evaluation

About the role

You will evaluate and report on the overall health of MISO’s markets, focusing on reliability, efficiency, and market outcomes. You will join a growing team to evaluate and recommend new market design initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering, statistical, and economic analyses of market and system operations, market products, Market Participant behaviors, and resulting market outcomes
• Develop a strong understanding of MISO’s market systems, their workings, and how they integrate
• Assess the health of MISO’s markets, provide timely reporting on market events, and validate market outcomes against design requirements
• Collect, organize, and analyze data to identify meaningful patterns, trends, and potential areas of concern
• Use data visualization tools to transform complex analysis into clear, understandable findings
• Identify opportunities to streamline and automate repetitive activities within the analytical process
• Contribute to team goals, create useful insights, ask relevant questions, and help improve market performance

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• One to two years of relevant work experience preferred
• Experience or exposure in energy market forecasting and analysis, power system analysis and operations, software development, data science, statistical or econometric analysis, market design, or optimization algorithms

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors or better in Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering
• Experience: Experience with power engineering or market simulation tools such as PowerGEM or PLEXOS is preferred, but not required. Working knowledge of data analysis and programming tools such as Python, Power BI, and Azure. Experience or exposure in energy market forecasting and analysis, power system analysis and operations, software development, data science, statistical or econometric analysis, market design, or optimization algorithms.

Skills

• Experience with power engineering or market simulation tools such as PowerGEM or PLEXOS
• Working knowledge of data analysis and programming tools such as Python, Power BI, and Azure
• Experience or exposure in energy market forecasting and analysis, power system analysis and operations, software development, data science, statistical or econometric analysis, market design, or optimization algorithms

Benefits

The base salary compensation range for this role is $71,000 - $96,000 USD annually. The position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met.
