Engineer I - Compliance Section

Full-time

DNREC is now offering sign-on bonuses for Engineers as part of our Recruitment Program. Incentives are based on the position classification and are paid in two installments: one after three months of employment and the second after eighteen months. New employees must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DNREC in the Engineer I-IV series.

  • Engineer I: $4,000
  • Engineer II: $5,000
  • Engineer III: $6,000
  • Engineer IV: $7,000

This program is available to new hires to the State of Delaware or those new to the Engineer classification series within the state. The program may be terminated by DNREC at any time with or without notice.

About the Role

This position involves permitting and compliance work for minor and major facilities in Delaware. Air permits authorize the construction and operation of equipment, while compliance work ensures businesses adhere to federal and state regulations, protecting the state's air quality.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, develop, and modify engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
  • Review permit applications, blueprints, and designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Apply principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Plan and conduct field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections, and investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
  • Test or evaluate materials, equipment, systems, and facilities.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering projects.
  • Review, analyze, and report on the status of projects and regulatory conformance.
  • Develop cost estimates for project time and materials.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to technical staff.

Requirements

For Engineer I, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree (or anticipated graduation within 9 months) in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination (in the assigned engineering discipline) administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

Additional Information

This position is eligible for telework and alternative work schedules according to the State of Delaware’s Alternative Work Arrangement Policy.

Conditions of Hire

  • DNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1B visas.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked, canceled, or disqualified from driving).
  • All new hires must attend the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment.
