Join the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and play a critical role in protecting public health and the environment. DNREC is offering sign-on bonuses for new Engineers as part of its Recruitment Program:

  • $4,000 for Engineer I
  • $5,000 for Engineer II
  • $6,000 for Engineer III
  • $7,000 for Engineer IV

Bonuses are paid in two installments: after three months and after eighteen months of employment. New employees must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DNREC in the Engineer I-IV series. This program is available to new hires to the State of Delaware or those new to the Engineer classification series.

About the role

This position involves permitting and compliance work for minor and major facilities in Delaware. Responsibilities include issuing air permits for equipment construction and operation, and ensuring businesses comply with federal and state regulations to protect air quality.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, develop, and modify engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
  • Review permit applications, blueprints, and designs to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Apply principles of science and mathematics to research and develop technical solutions.
  • Plan and conduct field studies, surveys, inspections, and investigations to collect data and ensure conformance with laws.
  • Test and evaluate materials, equipment, systems, and facilities.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering projects.
  • Review, analyze, and report on project status and regulatory conformance.
  • Develop cost estimates for project time and materials.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or anticipated graduation within 9 months) in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in the assigned discipline (administered by NCEES).
  • Valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked, or disqualified).
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; DNREC does not provide H-1B visa sponsorship.

Schedule

This position is eligible for telework and alternative work schedules under the State of Delaware’s Alternative Work Arrangement Policy. More details will be provided during the interview process.
