Summary
Spire is seeking a Compliance Engineer I to work in the Pipeline Safety Compliance department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of state and federal pipeline safety industry regulations and company standards
- Support activities related to preparation and participation in the company’s PSC pipeline safety inspections, investigations and inquiries and completion of appropriate responses
- Support the company’s pipeline safety initiatives through interacting with the PSC Pipeline Safety Staff, other gas utility representatives, and material/equipment vendors as needed
- Prepare and coordinate submittal of various state and federal regulatory reports and documentation as needed
- Coordinate planning of leakage and other compliance-related surveys as required
- Advise Field Operations personnel as needed related to pipeline safety compliance
- Manage the implementation of special projects related to compliance activities as assigned
- All other duties as assigned
Essential Characteristics
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with internal peers, staff of acquired entities, and third-party service providers
- Working knowledge of industry standards and regulatory code pertinent to pipelines and natural gas operations including 49 CFR Parts 191 and 192 and any related state regulation
- Ability to lead by example in support of the Company’s essential characteristics and values
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, adapt in a fast-moving and changing culture
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in order to meet individual goals and deadlines. Ability to work as part of a team and display a positive attitude for this dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of project management techniques and proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and work across functional areas to achieve mutual goals.
Required Education (certifications, licenses)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Civil, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred
- Valid driver’s license
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
- 0-2 years of work experience in the operations and engineering area of a regulated natural gas distribution system or related experience in another industry required
- Familiarity with state and federal pipeline safety regulations and Company standards related to pipeline safety required
- Occasionally perform project management tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with both internal peers, staff of acquired entities and third-party service providers
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
Physical demands, environment and schedule
- Normally works inside office surroundings but will occasionally work outdoors in the field under varying weather conditions with moderate physical exertion
- Typically Monday through Friday; hybrid in-office/remote work schedule.
- Occasional travel or overtime as required
