About the role
The Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) is seeking an experienced Engineer to join the Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) Bureau. The District serves a population of nearly 6 million people in west-central Florida and is committed to protecting water resources, minimizing flood risks, and ensuring public water needs are met.
Responsibilities
- Ensure activities are brought into compliance with state and District rules.
- Transfer construction permits to the operation phase, address permit condition violations, handle expired permits, and monitor unauthorized construction activities.
- Collaborate with Regulatory Support staff to accomplish these tasks.
- Travel to site meetings in designated District counties.
- Participate in ERP Bureau projects under the direction of the ERP Compliance Manager.
- Contribute to departmental activities and perform other duties as necessary.
- Support the District’s emergency management role before, during, and after major storm events.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Engineer 2: Two (2) years related work experience.
- Engineer 3: Four (4) years related work experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid Florida Professional Engineer license (for Engineer 3).

- Compensation: Engineer 2: $61,254.00 - $84,422.50; Engineer 3: $66,180.00 - $91,203.00
Schedule
This role is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, out of either the Brookville, FL office, with some remote work available after training. Travel is required, using District vehicle, within the District's coverage area.
Pay
The starting salary range for the Engineer position reflects the minimum to 50% of the compensation. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.
