EMT

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

• Iowa Emergency Medical Technician – Up to date EMT or NREMT certification in the State of Iowa.
• AHA HCP CPR required.
• PHTLS preferred.
• National Registry Certification preferred.
• Emergency Vehicle Driving Safety Course preferred.
• Clean Driving record - required.

Responsibilities/essential functions

• Be prepared to respond in a timely and safe manner to emergent and non-emergent requests.
• Critical thinking, scene control, assessment and gaining access to patients.
• Provides competent patient care to all patient populations.
• Transport and treatment of patients established in protocols per EMS guidelines.
• Documents in the medical records and communicates pertinent patient information in a timely and accurate manner.
• Attends departmental in-services and staff meetings as required or requested.
• Acts in a professional manner.
• Operate the secure car, wheelchair and ambulance in accordance with the driving policy.
• Participate in staff meetings and continuing education as directed.
• Maintain patient records according to policy and procedures.
• Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, vision and values of CARE Ambulance.
• All other duties as assigned.
• Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
• Turn in appropriate documents (PCRs) prior to leaving duty.
• Comply with HIPAA regulations.
• Follow infection control policy.

Physical Elements

• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, to enable the employee to communicate effectively;
• Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, to enable the employee to review a wide variety of materials in electronic or hard copy form;

Environmental Elements

• Employee works in various environments with moderate to high noises, variable temperatures and direct exposure to multiple hazardous situations possible.
