EMS Education Coordinator

About the role

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education Coordinator leads the education and training activities of Rice EMS, including programs for First Responders, EMTs, and Advanced EMTs, as well as continuing education for providers. The coordinator serves as a mentor, clinical supervisor, and educator, helping students build technical expertise and the teamwork and communication skills essential to health care. This role offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of health care providers while contributing to the broader mission of Rice EMS. The team plays a vital role on campus — responding to individual patient needs, planning and supporting large-scale events, and standing ready for hurricane response. Each day brings variety, whether in the classroom, in meetings, or in the field.

We are looking for a coordinator who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and shaping the next generation of EMS providers. The role involves designing and managing educational programs, guiding students through clinical training, building strong partnerships with training sites, overseeing program budgets, and continually improving the quality of EMS education.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, train, and supervise instructional staff; maintain Texas EMS Instructor and Course Coordinator qualifications; evaluate instructional performance.
• Guide EMS student leaders in education policies, program management, and responsible financial practices.
• Maintain Rice EMS licensure as an initial and continuing education program; oversee program operations and quality standards.
• Manage clinical scheduling, training agreements, and development of new clinical sites; maintain training equipment and resources.
• Provide prehospital emergency medical care, supervise EMS operations during large-scale campus events, and serve on the Crisis Management Team.
• Oversee program budgets, ensure fiscal responsibility, and pursue grant opportunities.
• Support additional responsibilities as assigned to advance Rice EMS and campus safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (in lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience above and beyond what is required may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis).
• 3 years of experience as a clinical leader in a prehospital setting, and/or experience as an EMS educator.
• Teaching experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for DWI or DUI within the past three years (must possess or obtain within 30 days of hire).
• Texas Paramedic EMS Certification or Licensure (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Texas EMS Instructor certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
• National Incident Management System Training: ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
• National Incident Management System Training: ICS 300 and 400 (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire).

• High comfort level with presentations, media interviews, press releases, report preparation, and personnel instructions.
• Excellent analytical, conflict resolution, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; exceptional mental acuity.

Pay

Hiring range: $72,100 to $80,400, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is an exempt (salaried) position under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime.

Workplace

This position is exclusively on-site; all duties must be performed in person and on campus. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
