EMS Dispatcher

About the role

The EMS Dispatcher position at Advocate Health is responsible for managing emergency medical service communications, ensuring timely and accurate dispatching of ambulance and other emergency response units.

Responsibilities

• Receive and prioritize incoming calls for emergency medical services
• Dispatch appropriate resources based on patient needs and available units
• Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and other emergency responders
• Ensure accurate documentation of all dispatch activities
• Stay updated on local traffic conditions and road closures to optimize response times
• Participate in regular training sessions to maintain proficiency in emergency dispatch protocols

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
• Proficiency in computer systems and software used for dispatch operations

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency medical services or related field preferred
• Knowledge of local emergency response procedures and protocols
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and efficiently

Base compensation listed within the listed pay range based on factors such as qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training. Premium pay such as shift, on call, and more based on a teammate's job. Opportunity for annual increases based on performance.
