EMS Deputy Chief, #JR-00001

About the role

The City of Virginia Beach seeks to fill two (2) Deputy Chief positions within its EMS Department. These roles are integral to a departmental leadership transition, supporting the EMS Chief/EMS Executive Deputy Chief in managing the EMS Department and leading the VB Rescue System.

Responsibilities

• Plan, promote, and develop goals and objectives for the department.
• Provide coordination of department programs and operations, including development and evaluation of program effectiveness.
• Provide effective leadership to achieve desired outcomes; plan and budget for resources necessary to accomplish goals and objectives.
• Facilitate the development of department personnel, including volunteers.
• Communicate City and department mission, vision, and strategies to staff throughout the organization.
• Develop innovative plans to maximize utilization of resources effectively and efficiently.
• Monitor workforce planning to meet anticipated needs of the department.
• Monitor trends in EMS and healthcare to ensure quality patient care provision is maintained.
• Collaborate with other public safety agencies, regional teams, and state agencies.
• Assume command of the department in the absence of the EMS Chief/EMS Executive Deputy Chief.

Requirements

• Extensive experience working with volunteer emergency medical services personnel.
• Completion of additional courses of study and professional development programs in emergency services leadership.
• A Master’s Degree from an Accredited College or University in a related field.
