About the role
Supervises students in Community Based Instruction and Pre-vocational opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Represent the district on the KentTAN committee and provide the appropriate information to relevant staff.
- Coordinate work experience and Community Based Instruction for 9-12th grade special education students at both EKHS and Crossroads.
- Make contact and secure employment opportunities for students with disabilities.
- Support EKHS and Crossroads pre-vocational training sites through developing sites and observing and supervising students.
- Schedule vocational assessments.
- Liaison with Kent Transition Center and Kent Career Technical Center.
- Arrange job shadow opportunities as provided in student IEPs.
- Attend student IEPs as requested.
- Coordinate student meetings at both EKHS and Crossroads with Michigan Rehabilitation Services.
- Community Liaison with area services including MRS, Project SEARCH, Goodwill, etc.
- Coordinate and monitor student transportation related to employment or Transition activities as necessary.
- Coordinate with the RAPID for student bus training when needed.
- Remain current on all Department of Labor guidelines.
- Regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Principal, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Previous experience with students with disabilities or a combination of experience and post high school training.
Skills
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.
- Ability to work with emotionally, physically, and/or mentally impaired students.
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Highly organized and able to coordinate a number of assignments at the same time.
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
Physical and Mental Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment), taste, and smell.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust/focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.
- Mental functions include comparing, analyzing, communicating both orally and in writing, copying, coordinating, instructing, computing, synthesizing, evaluating, using interpersonal skills, compiling, and negotiating.
