Employment / Litigation Counsel
Responsibilities
- Provide federal, state, and local employment and labor law advice and support for all U.S.-based operations.
- Advising Human Resources and business leaders on hiring, termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, and internal investigations.
- Managing all domestic employment-related litigation and disputes (and, as a member of the litigation team, will handle certain general commercial litigation), including strategy development, pleadings, all facets of discovery, settlement guidance, and oversight of outside counsel.
- Negotiate, draft, and review employment-related agreements and develop and deliver employment law training.
- Research and stay current on employment, labor, and litigation law developments and communicate relevant changes internally.
- Display excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle highly confidential information.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association–accredited law school; member in good standing of at least one state bar required.
- Minimum 6-8 years of experience specializing in employment law, either in-house or at a firm, with experience overseeing outside counsel required.
- Previous experience managing a team preferred.
- Expert-level knowledge of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws.
- Strong strategic and problem solving skills.
- About 20% travel may be required in support of the position’s responsibilities, including visiting the Boston office on a regular cadence.
- Strong organization, planning, and project management skills; ability to prioritize tasks for self and team to meet requirements and deadlines.
- Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.
- Strong leadership skills; ability to drive and motivate team to achieve results.
