Primary Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and guidance on a wide range of labor and employment matters, including employee relations, separations, wage and hour issues, hiring practices, compensation plans, immigration, employee benefits, and policy compliance.
- Support HR and business leaders in managing complex ADA accommodation matters.
- Conduct research and analysis of labor and employment laws to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Aid in the development and implementation of employment policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with HR and management teams to resolve employment-related disputes and mitigate potential legal risks.
- Manage and respond to administrative complaints with the EEOC and other administrative agencies.
- Support global employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions with support from local counsel.
- Manage both employment and commercial litigation and disputes, providing appropriate updates to cross-functional partners and leadership regarding risk, financial impact, and litigation strategy.
- Assess the merits of legal claims and potential exposure to determine the most effective resolution strategies.
- Manage relationships with outside counsel, including selecting, engaging, and coordinating with external legal representatives.
- Collaborate with outside counsel in developing and implementing litigation strategies and case management plans.
- Advise the sales, services, and operations teams regarding customer escalations and disputes.
- Respond timely to requests for information and subpoenas and assist the company in developing strong procedures for compliance with these requests.
- Participate in settlement discussions and negotiations with opposing parties, working closely with outside counsel and internal stakeholders to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Review and analyze various contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to identify risks and propose necessary revisions (e.g., restrictive covenant agreements, commercial contracts, etc.).
- Aid in the drafting, negotiation, and review of employment contracts, settlement agreements, severance agreements and non-disclosure agreements.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Monitor changes in labor and employment laws and regulations and proactively advise the organization on any potential impact.
- Aid in the development and delivery of legal training programs to ensure compliance awareness among employees and management.
- Participate in internal investigations related to employment matters, including harassment or discrimination complaints.
- Collaborate with product and privacy counsel on product compliance questions and best practices, including emerging AI-related issues.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including HR, management, and external counsel, to provide legal advice and support.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge, best practices, and ensure consistent legal advice and services.
Education And Experience
- JD required + admission in good standing to any State / DC bar
- 6+ years’ relevant experience in employment law and litigation
- Sound knowledge of multi-jurisdictional labor and employment laws, regulations, and best practices
- Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
- Ownership mentality and comfort balancing legal risk with business priorities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in using legal research tools and technology
- Prior experience in drafting legal documents, contracts, and policies is preferred
