About the role
The Employees Retirement System Examiner 2 position within the Office of the New York State Comptroller involves performing a variety of tasks related to the processing and maintenance of member and employer applications and data in the New York State and Local Retirement Systems. This role requires developing familiarity with relevant laws, rules, and procedures, interpreting benefit information, determining eligibility, and performing complex calculations.
Responsibilities
- Reconcile accounts, calculate payments, collect, analyze statistics, and explain policy or benefit information to the public
- Determine eligibility and benefit payments for members and retirees
- Answer telephone inquiries and respond to correspondence and emails from employers, members, pensioners, beneficiaries, and others
- Prepare various written materials and reports
- Provide technical direction and assistance to staff and others
- Train, mentor, and supervise lower-level clerical staff
Requirements
- One year of experience performing at least one of the following tasks: reconciling accounts, calculating payments, collecting, analyzing statistics and information, or explaining policy or benefit information to the public
- An Associate degree or higher or 60 semester credit hours of college-level study
- 30 semester credit hours of college-level study and 6 months of the experience described above
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal skills with staff and customers, both over the telephone and in-person
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Able to perform tasks accurately and within specific time frames
- Proficient in using a personal computer and demonstrating a working knowledge of the PeopleSoft system, the Internet, and OSC’s Intranet to access Retirement Systems' laws, policies, and procedures
- Able to perform complex mathematical calculations as necessary
- Able to acquire, retain, and apply extensive Retirement System knowledge to respond to customer inquiries

From $24.15 to $24.15 hourly
