Employee Safety Program Specialist
Principal Responsibilities
Maintains regulatory compliance.
Safeguards compliances with all local, state and nationally recognized employee safety related standards and regulations.
Supports the development of and maintains policies and procedures.
Participates in regulatory surveys.
Safeguards employee safety program by analyzing and developing safe work practices and programs designed to anticipate, identify mitigate or eliminate hazards.
Safeguards employee safety program by supporting performance improvement initiatives.
Conducts workplace safety audits and analysis to identify, assess, prevent and control workplace related hazards.
Conducts risk assessments and aligns programs to address identified risks.
Investigates incidents, functions as a safety officer, conducts root cause analysis and collaborates with leaders on corrective action plans.
Implements safety programs for ensuring control of hazardous materials and waste.
Provides analysis of workplace accidents and related costs such as personal injury and/or property damage.
Uses data to monitor impact of lost work days related to employee injuries.
Collaborates across disciplines to define and promote safe work practices and decreases employee injuries.
Applies basic analytical skills to evaluate employee safety data and tactics.
Makes data-driven decisions and recommendations to key stakeholders.
Incorporates high reliability skills into tools and employee safety program efforts.
Investigates employee safety incidents and initiates actions for prevention.
Develops, conducts and analyzes workplace safety audits.
Establishes, implements & maintains site employee safety program.
Participates in site and system safety related committees.
Inspects and analyzes the workplace for hazards and takes corrective action as needed.
Creates and promotes employee safety standards and safe work performance.
Leads, implements, evaluates and monitors employee safety initiatives.
Maintains chemical inventory and safety data sheets (SDS).
Develops and implements safety programs for ensuring control of hazardous materials and waste.
Safeguards the employee safety program by supporting the development, implementation and management of employee safety related education.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health, Biology, Industrial Hygiene, Medical Technology or related field
- 2 to 5 years experience in healthcare industry in an employee safety, emergency management, industrial hygiene, public health or other related department if Bachelor’s Degree prepared
- Master's degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health, Biology, Industrial Hygiene, Medical Technology or related field
- 0 to 2 years experience in healthcare industry in an employee safety, emergency management, industrial hygiene, public health or other related department if Master’s Degree prepared
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health, Biology, Industrial Hygiene, Medical Technology or related field
- 0 to 2 years experience in healthcare industry in an employee safety, emergency management, industrial hygiene, public health or other related department if Master’s Degree prepared
Physical Demands
Light Work: Lifting weight up to 20 lbs. occasionally, up to 10 lbs. frequently
This is an onsite position primarily supporting Buffalo Hospital and Cambridge Medical Center.
Full time position 8-hour, day shifts
No scheduled weekends
Pay Range
Pay Range: $38.52 to $52.80 per hour
