Position Details
Job Summary: The Safety Specialist serves as a key business partner, collaborating closely with leadership to ensure OSHA compliance and promote a safe work environment for all Carhartt associates. This role functions as a safety consultant across both supply chain, corporate, and retail operations, providing guidance and support on all safety-related matters. The Safety Specialist plays a critical role in driving safety initiatives, fostering a strong safety culture, and ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
Associate Responsibilities
- On-site safety support at Camden Sewing, supporting Retail and other areas of the business as needed.
- Oversee OSHA facility compliance.
- Promote safety awareness globally.
- Conduct all mandatory OSHA training and meetings to ensure compliance.
- Act as a consultant with safety issues to the safety team and leadership at Camden.
- Collaborate with company leadership in the preparation of the Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response Action Plans.
- Act as a liaison between third party administrator, Carhartt, Inc. and legal.
- Participate in the Workers’ Compensation process by coordinating with the administrator, applying knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, ensuring OSHA log compliance, supporting associates’ medical treatment, and managing cases from incident through return-to-work or resolution.
- Develop, promote and maintain safety and health programs, policies and training.
- Coach associates at all levels to ensure strong safety culture exists and is maintained.
- Lead the Camden Safety Committee with focus on raising safety awareness and creating an environment free of incidents.
- Conduct ongoing safety audits of the Camden facility, operations, and equipment to ensure compliance and a safe working environment for all Carhartt associates.
- Support ergonomic assessments of each operation in the Camden facility.
- Act as a professional liaison in the event of government agency, OSHA or TOSHA notifications or inspections concerning safety, environmental or ergonomic issues.
- Lead accident investigation and support development plans to prevent the accident from reoccurring and provide education to all associates.
- Gain knowledge on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); willingness to learn process and apply when necessary.
- Attend ADA meetings as scheduled.
- Support and manage required company drug testing protocol.
Required Education and Skills
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Safety or Occupational Health required; experience within a manufacturing or retail safety environment is preferred.
- Safety certification is preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to be proactive and take initiative, follow up and follow through on all areas of responsibility.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Normal office environment; cubicle/office setting.
- Extended periods of time sitting, standing, typing on a computer is required.
- Light lifting may be required.
Work Hours
- Typical work hours: 7am to 5pm Monday – Thursday.
- Overtime support as needed.
Travel Requirements
- US travel required (up to 25%).
