Position Summary

An Employee Benefits Data Analyst supports LGWIS Employee Benefits clients—particularly self-funded and captive accounts—by transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights. This role analyzes employee benefit plan data to evaluate financial performance, identify trends and risks, and support data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret data related to self-funded and captive employee benefit plans
  • Identify trends, risks, cost drivers, and utilization patterns impacting healthcare spend
  • Ensure data accuracy by identifying and resolving discrepancies or incomplete data
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize databases and reporting systems
  • Transform complex data into clear, actionable reports and dashboards
  • Apply statistical methods to analyze trends and support forecasting and decision-making
  • Conduct data quality assessments to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop client recommendations and strategies
  • Present findings in a clear and tailored manner to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Support client reporting, renewal processes, and strategic initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and enhanced data governance
  • Aid in sales initiatives by supporting reporting and risk analysis efforts
  • Participate in client meetings, conferences, and presentations (up to 5% travel)

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in health insurance (carrier or TPA preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience in data analytics/reporting, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Information Systems)
  • Strong knowledge of medical claims (professional and facility)
  • Advanced Excel and proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools
  • Active Life & Health Insurance license (or ability to obtain)
  • Understanding of compliance requirements (HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, ACA)
  • Experience in employee benefits, healthcare analytics, or financial analysis preferred

Technical Skills

  • Data cleaning, transformation, and validation
  • Statistical analysis (e.g., regression, correlation, hypothesis testing)
  • Database management and querying
  • Data visualization and dashboard development
  • Experience with reporting and analytics tools
  • Familiarity with automation and basic machine learning concepts (preferred)
