Position Summary
An Employee Benefits Data Analyst supports LGWIS Employee Benefits clients—particularly self-funded and captive accounts—by transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights. This role analyzes employee benefit plan data to evaluate financial performance, identify trends and risks, and support data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret data related to self-funded and captive employee benefit plans
- Identify trends, risks, cost drivers, and utilization patterns impacting healthcare spend
- Ensure data accuracy by identifying and resolving discrepancies or incomplete data
- Develop, maintain, and optimize databases and reporting systems
- Transform complex data into clear, actionable reports and dashboards
- Apply statistical methods to analyze trends and support forecasting and decision-making
- Conduct data quality assessments to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop client recommendations and strategies
- Present findings in a clear and tailored manner to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Support client reporting, renewal processes, and strategic initiatives
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and enhanced data governance
- Aid in sales initiatives by supporting reporting and risk analysis efforts
- Participate in client meetings, conferences, and presentations (up to 5% travel)
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in health insurance (carrier or TPA preferred)
- 7+ years of experience in data analytics/reporting, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Information Systems)
- Strong knowledge of medical claims (professional and facility)
- Advanced Excel and proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools
- Active Life & Health Insurance license (or ability to obtain)
- Understanding of compliance requirements (HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, ACA)
- Experience in employee benefits, healthcare analytics, or financial analysis preferred
Technical Skills
- Data cleaning, transformation, and validation
- Statistical analysis (e.g., regression, correlation, hypothesis testing)
- Database management and querying
- Data visualization and dashboard development
- Experience with reporting and analytics tools
- Familiarity with automation and basic machine learning concepts (preferred)
