Responsibilities
- Answers questions or finds someone who can assist with inquiries.
- Interacts with nursing staff, other clinicians, and support services, serving as a resource person.
- Acts as a compassionate and empathetic point of contact for patients and their families, ensuring a humanistic approach.
- Utilizes technological solutions to enhance work processes and practices, including accessing Lotus Notes for various resources.
- Orders necessary supplies from Stores and other departments, collaborating with the Operations Supervisor to maintain par levels and place orders with external vendors.
- Ensures accurate and timely completion of patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, including scanning orders to the pharmacy and alerting nurses to STAT orders.
- Reviews and follows up on Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) orders, ensuring adherence to SSH policies and procedures.
- Maintains up-to-date records in bed tracking and PCS systems, books appointments through central scheduling, and ensures accurate discharge disposition documentation.
- Faxes necessary discharge paperwork and medication reconciliation to appropriate providers.
- Prints, reviews, and inquires about unit reports as needed, files them in the patient's chart, and completes daily chart audits.
- Completes shift-to-shift reports and conducts shift rounds, verifying precaution rooms and door tags.
- Orders supplies from Stores and collaborates with the Operations Supervisor to manage par levels and place orders with external vendors.
- Fosters a "Culture of Safety" by adhering to safety protocols, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and maintaining awareness of MSDS sheets.
- Functions as a preceptor for new employees, demonstrating dependability and flexibility in meeting scheduling needs.
- Utilizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills in both routine and emergency situations, communicating appropriately through the chain of command.
- Becomes informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment, bringing potential compliance issues to attention.
- Complies with legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards, safeguarding patient information and adhering to privacy and security policies.
- Welcomes the presence and participation of family members at all times, respecting patient and family preferences.
- Considers the individual needs of each person, possessing age and cultural knowledge and awareness, and effectively utilizing resources to provide care.
- Works within a 32-hour schedule, rotating weekends and major holidays.
Qualifications
- Preferred High School Diploma/GED.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Effective communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to deal efficiently with a wide variety of individuals.
