At VCA Veterinary Emergency Service & Veterinary Specialty Center we provide top-tier emergency and critical care services for pets in need. We are currently seeking a dedicated Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic team.
Responsibilities
- Support veterinarians and technicians during emergency surgeries, trauma care, and critical treatments.
- Provide compassionate and attentive care to emergency patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and providing comfort.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing them with updates and information about their pet's condition and care instructions.
- Maintain equipment and supplies, ensuring that all emergency equipment is properly maintained and that supplies are well-stocked and ready for use.
- Work closely with our emergency veterinary team to ensure the highest standard of care and a seamless operation during emergencies.
Requirements
Essential skills and qualifications include:
- A strong background in veterinary assisting or related field.
- Experience in emergency and critical care settings.
- Excellent communication and client service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
- Current certification as a Veterinary Technician (VTS) or equivalent.
- Current certification as a Veterinary Assistant (VAA) or equivalent.
- Current certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or equivalent.
- Current certification as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or equivalent.
Skills
Desired skills and abilities include:
- Proficiency in using emergency medical equipment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
- Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology.

Pay
The starting range is determined by license, skill set, and years of experience in the field.
Schedule
Part-time, every other weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday).
