About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Overnight ER Veterinary Assistant to join our team!

Schedule

  • Thurs-Sat, 8am-8pm (+ alternating Wed shift once/month)

Pay

  • $22.50 - $32.80 / hour
  • The pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.
  • We Offer Competitive Shift Differential Pay For Eligible Hours Worked For Nights And Weekends.
  • Shift Differentials Are Based On a 4-hour Minimum.
  • For Example Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr.
  • Shift Differential Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr.
  • Shift Differential Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr.

Responsibilities

  • Triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed.
  • Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc).
  • Set up and discharge patients.
  • Handle client communication.
  • Assist with nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Stock, clean, and maintain cleanliness in our ER, ICU and other designated areas for the role.
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under the guidance of an LVT.
  • Perform radiography and lab work.
  • Perform physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Engage with clients by performing triages, going over estimates, and providing discharge instructions.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable and skilled in emergency veterinary care.
  • Ability to triage and assist with diagnostics and patient care.
  • Strong communication and client interaction skills.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used medications and their side effects.
  • Proficiency in physical exams and diagnostic techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current state licensure or eligibility to obtain.
