Join a cohesive team of 11 emergency physicians managing approximately 17,000 patient visits per year. As the regional Trauma and ICU Referral Centre, KBRH handles complex cases across a diverse patient demographic, including pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, trauma, and various medical and surgical scenarios.

KBRH is equipped with state-of-the-art onsite medical imaging facilities, including CT and MRI, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals such as mental health and substance use nurses, physiotherapists, and respiratory therapists. The hospital is deeply involved in facility-wide initiatives, offering dedicated funding for quality improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes.

As a hub for medical education, KBRH provides opportunities for learning, mentorship, and innovation through programs like the Southern Medical Program Integrated Clerkship and the UBC Family Practice Residency Site. Activities such as journal clubs, simulations, and M+M rounds ensure continuous professional growth.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) serves 85,000 residents with comprehensive care, including 24/7 emergency and trauma services, intensive care, acute medical care, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care. The hospital features specialized units in ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine.

The 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) underscores KBRH’s role as the regional hub for critically ill and injured patients, ensuring expert care for high-acuity cases.

Compensation

Compensation is fee-for-service with a guaranteed income of $366,046 to $403,668 per 1.0 FTE (depending on qualifications), prorated for part-time positions. No physician overhead is required.

Benefits and Incentives

• Flexible scheduling with ample vacation leave.
• Eligibility for additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:
  • Retention Premium: 11.48%
  • Retention Flat Fee: $17,421
  • Relocation Funding: $9,000 (within BC), $12,000 (within Canada), $15,000 (outside Canada).
  • Recruitment Incentive: $15,000, prorated for part-time.
• Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) funding: $440 for up to 2 years, $2,640 during the 3rd and 4th years, and $4,840 after 4 years, in addition to Doctors of BC CME funds.

Rural incentives are subject to change and confirmed at the time of offer.
