About the Role
Join the dynamic team at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH), where your expertise in emergency medicine will contribute to advancing patient care. As part of a cohesive team of 11 emergency physicians, you’ll manage approximately 17,000 patient visits annually. KBRH serves as the regional Trauma and ICU Referral Centre, handling complex cases across a diverse patient demographic, from pediatrics to geriatrics, including mental health, trauma, and various medical and surgical scenarios.
The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art onsite medical imaging, including CT and MRI, and collaborates with a team of allied health professionals such as mental health and substance use nurses, physiotherapists, and respiratory therapists. You’ll have opportunities to engage in facility-wide initiatives, quality improvement projects, and medical education, including mentorship of medical students and residents through programs like the Southern Medical Program Integrated Clerkship and the UBC Family Practice Residency Site.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is committed to the health and wellness of the 85,000 residents in the region, providing personalized and comprehensive care. The hospital offers 24/7 emergency and trauma care, along with specialized units for intensive care, acute medical conditions, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care. KBRH is staffed by dedicated specialists in fields such as ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine.
The 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) underscores KBRH’s role as the regional hub for critically ill and injured patients, ensuring expert care is always available.
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency medical care to a diverse patient population, including pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, trauma, and various medical and surgical cases.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals to deliver exemplary patient care.
- Participate in facility-wide initiatives and quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes.
- Engage in medical education, including mentorship of medical students and residents through programs like the Southern Medical Program Integrated Clerkship and UBC Family Practice Residency Site.
- Contribute to continuous learning and innovation through activities such as journal clubs, simulations, and M+M rounds.
Pay
Compensation is fee-for-service with an estimated remuneration of $366,046 to $403,668 per 1.0 FTE, depending on qualifications, and prorated for part-time positions. Additional financial incentives may include:
- Retention Premium: 11.48%
- Retention Flat Fee: $17,421
- Relocation Funding: $9,000 (within BC), $12,000 (within Canada), $15,000 (outside Canada)
- Recruitment Incentive: $15,000, prorated for part-time work
- Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) funding: $440 for up to 2 years, $2,640 during the 3rd and 4th years, and $4,840 after 4 years, in addition to Doctors of BC CME funds.
Rural incentives are subject to change and confirmed at the time of offer.
