Emergency Medical Technician

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) plays a crucial role in driving an ambulance to emergency scenes, assessing patients, administering treatments, and transporting them to facilities.
Responsibilities
- Drive the ambulance safely in accordance with Indiana law and area mapping systems
- Operate ambulance and hospital radio equipment according to hospital policies and procedures
- Complete initial and ongoing patient assessments and take appropriate actions when significant changes are recognized
- Gather and relay pertinent patient information to the Emergency Department via cellular telephone/radio system and written reports
- Administer basic life support treatments, including non-visualized airways and IV maintenance, and treat patients based on age-specific issues
- Assist paramedics with advanced life support care, adhering to standing orders and protocols
- Clean and restock the ambulance and garage area as needed
- Offer assistance to emergency physicians and nurses in the Emergency Department
- Think independently to ensure daily job assignments are completed without direct supervision
- Assist in orienting new EMTs, Paramedics, and students
- Attend unit in-services and educational programs
- Maintain current certification records on all required skill levels
- Perform phlebotomy as per Community Howard Regional Health Policies and Procedures
- Maintain the privacy and security of protected health information (PHI)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 6-12 months experience with an ambulance service (Preferred)
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certifications/licenses
- Current certification records on all required skill levels
- Committed to teamwork, communication, and problem-solving
