Emergency Medical Technician - Correctional Health Services

Key Responsibilities

• Provide emergency medical care to the inmate population at USCF.
• Administer medications as ordered by a CHS medical or psychiatric provider.
• Aid the Registered Nurse in assessing patients requesting healthcare services.
• Complete crisis evaluations for patients experiencing mental health emergencies.
• Administer medications consistent with CHS policies and procedures.
• Perform physical assessments of patients and refer those requiring further evaluation or treatment to a registered nurse, physician, or other health care professional.
• Maintain emergency kits; check for missing and/or outdated supplies and restock them as necessary; restock medical equipment and replenish first-aid equipment and supplies in the treatment area.
• Perform a variety of treatments including, but not limited to, diabetic care, obtaining vital signs, EKG’s, blood draws, wound care, and dressing changes.
• Receive information from referents to determine priority and assess client’s needs for services.
• Ensure there is an adequate supply of materials available.
• Prepare and/or process documents; review for accuracy and completeness; update information and/or evaluate against policy; compare elements for consistency or logical relationships, etc.
• Order, receive, inspect, and store equipment, merchandise, commodities, materials, and/or supplies.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted certification as Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Utah.
• The ability to work well with medical staff, officers, and individuals who are incarcerated.
