About the Role
As part of the Community Alliance Response Engagement (C.A.R.E.) Team, the CARE EMT responds, along with a behavioral health specialist (BHT/BHP), to individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use concern via the Flagstaff 911 Dispatch Center. Utilizing best practices for basic life support with the integration of crisis intervention by a BHT/BHP, the CARE EMT supports individuals and families in crisis. The role requires professionalism, friendliness, self-motivation, organization, and compassion.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic life support assessment and treatment within the scope of Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System Emergency Medical Care Technician certification.
- Determine if an individual requires medical care beyond basic life support and contact 9-1-1 Dispatch as needed; ensure medical care until transfer is completed.
- Critically assess situations and call for additional resources as needed.
- Identify and manage life-threatening problems and assist partner(s) in managing them.
- Obtain manual vital signs and interact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances, including unpredictable or emergency situations.
- Professionally interact with pre-hospital care providers, law enforcement, fire department personnel, physicians, nurses, patients, families, and the public.
- Safely work around violent and high-risk patient populations while remaining calm in high-stress situations.
- Document patient care and maintain accurate, timely client records in the electronic health record.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of patients across the lifespan.
- Assist partner in ensuring the CARE vehicle and workstations are stocked, cleaned, and ready for daily use.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge in ALS and BLS equipment (setup, use, and management).
- Engage in immediate treatment/safety planning in various settings, including public areas, residences, and businesses.
- Support psychiatric hospital placements through coordination, planning, and facilitation with hospital staff.
- Display flexibility and adaptability to change.
Requirements
- EMT certification through the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System.
- Ability to work in high-stress, unpredictable environments, including loud noises and flashing lights.
- Professionalism, compassion, and strong interpersonal skills.

Full-time, Thursday–Saturday, 9:00 AM–7:00 PM.
