Emergency Med Tech (EMT) - Emergency Response Team
This role combines two key functions: providing emergency medical care at special events and transporting critically ill patients between healthcare facilities.
About the role
The Emergency Response Team delivers both basic and advanced life support (BLS and ALS) during special events, serving event staff, attendees, participants, entertainers, and others onsite. This highly visible position demands exceptional clinical skills and a strong commitment to customer service. Paramedics must demonstrate proficiency in BLS and ALS protocols while maintaining professionalism in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
The EMT/Basic Critical Care Transport role involves transferring injured or critically ill patients between hospitals and other healthcare facilities. This physically demanding position requires adaptability, excellent driving and customer service skills, and basic computer proficiency. EMTs must be comfortable providing out-of-hospital care and willing to learn new skills to facilitate patient transfers.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe environment for patients, self, and others; supports patient safety initiatives.
- Identifies and meets personal learning needs; attends 75% of departmental continuing education.
- Assists in identifying expected patient outcomes and revising the plan of care as needed.
- Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care, including using 800 radio with clear, professional speech.
- Demonstrates competence in assisting with care for patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Utilizes healthcare organization and departmental policies, protocols, and procedures in delivering care.
- Assists in determining the best mode of patient transportation.
- Operates Rex Hospital patient transport vehicles and ambulances safely and in accordance with policies and North Carolina State law.
- Develops and achieves professional growth goals within identified time frames.
- Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities; promotes intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Uses communication systems effectively; promotes cost-effective care.
- Provides feedback to co-workers; stays aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and secure care environment.
- Includes appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in patient care.
- Synthesizes assessment data into a meaningful whole before communicating to others.
- Assesses and anticipates care for individual patients within the scope of practice set by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services.
- Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care.
- Makes use of multidisciplinary resources in planning care; addresses cultural and ethnic considerations.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
Requirements
- North Carolina EMT license (NCOEMS) is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Two years of experience as an EMT.
Skills
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
- IT Skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and report-writing programs. Ability to create reports, analyze data, and make sound business decisions.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Pay
$19.98 - $28.54 per hour (hiring range, based on experience and internal equity).
Schedule
- Per Diem (as needed).
- Standard hours per week: 4.00.
