Location: Nashville, TN – Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), Davidson County

Full-time position. As part of TEMA’s mission, employees may be called upon to support emergency operations, including alternate schedules, reporting to disaster scenes, and other response/recovery duties.

About the Role

Under general supervision, this lead communications technician is responsible for radio communications technical work of considerable difficulty. The role involves installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of communications equipment, including mobile radios, base stations, emergency management response vehicles, and repeater systems. The employee serves as lead technical support for other communications technicians and reports to the Radio Communications Manager.

Responsibilities

• Serves as team lead for Emergency Management Comm Tech employees, overseeing inventory management, radio programming, advanced troubleshooting, advanced equipment installation, and other duties.
• Acts as backup to the ESF-2 lead during activation of the State Emergency Operations Center.
• Provides oversight for TEMA Radio Communications inventory processes and procurement for the Radio Communications section.
• Installs, programs, and maintains radio communication equipment at transmitter sites, temporary locations, and in emergency management response vehicles.
• Maintains equipment associated with various communications platforms, including satellite, cellular, microwave radio systems, T1 lines, fiber optics, phone lines, and mobile communications vehicles to ensure continuity of operations.
• Performs scheduled equipment testing to ensure compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) standards and guidelines.
• Troubleshoots and repairs equipment failures to maintain continuity of operations.
• Coordinates with local, state, federal, and non-governmental organization partners to provide communications support and updates on interoperable communication systems.

Requirements

• Education equivalent to completion of one year of coursework in communication equipment repair or a related field at a vocational or technical school, plus five years of increasingly responsible full-time communications technical work.
• Qualifying full-time communications technical work may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Credentialed or certified as Tennessee COML, COMT, and ITSL, or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
• Possess FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
• Experience in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activities.
• Completion of ICS-300 and ICS-400.
• Certified or credentialed instructor, or certification/credentialing in electronics, RF/LTE/Satellite technology, and/or information technology systems.

Pay

Monthly: $5,100.00 – $6,373.00
Annual: $61,200.00 – $76,476.00
