Location: Nashville, Tennessee (Davidson County) – Department of Safety & Homeland Security. This is an on-site, full-time position requiring a criminal background check.

Pay

$4,057.00 monthly ($48,684.00 annually).

Schedule

Variable, including nights, weekends, and holidays to support a 24/7/365 operation.

Qualifications

Education equivalent to completion of one year of coursework at a vocational or technical school in communication equipment repair or a related field, plus four years of increasingly skilled, full-time communications technical work. Qualifying full-time communications technical work may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Overview

This non-commissioned, lead-level position maintains critical communication infrastructure for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, and repair of radio transmitting equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with agency, state, and federal guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, install, and maintain radio transmitting equipment and systems (fixed, mobile, and portable devices, as well as ancillary equipment like lighting and sirens) using necessary test equipment and tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance according to FCC guidelines and manufacturer’s specifications to prevent system failure.
  • Ensure compliance of State equipment with agency, state, and federal laws/guidelines through inspection and measurement.
  • Program system parameters, talk groups, and frequencies using computer software for radio transmitting equipment/systems (e.g., P25 - IP network, microwave point-to-point, analog communications).
  • Monitor radio systems, assess daily problems, and determine appropriate actions.
  • Determine work priorities based on service needs, system interruptions, emergency conditions, and safety considerations.
  • Program radio transceivers, IP routers, switches, and security/safety equipment (e.g., emergency lighting, cameras, sirens) using specialized software.
  • Act as the agency’s on-site representative to oversee and coordinate vendor/contractor work, ensuring specifications are met.
  • Attend required technical and safety training.
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics for installation, removal, and repair of radio systems.
  • Facilitate data sharing to ensure interoperability with local government officials and other agencies.
  • Monitor fault management terminals and inspect equipment, environmental, and physical aspects of properties to detect potential problems.
  • Utilize test equipment to detect possible failures and discrepancies.
