Emergency General Surgeon
About the role
Rochester General Hospital is seeking a Board Eligible or Board Certified Emergency General Surgeon to join a high-functioning, collegial team. This position offers opportunities for academic involvement in a new General Surgery Residency program.
Responsibilities
- Deliver urgent surgical care to patients with acute conditions such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, trauma, and more.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, APPs, and nurses to provide timely and coordinated care.
- Utilize both open and minimally invasive techniques across a broad range of complex surgical conditions.
- Participate in quality and safety initiatives aligned with Rochester Regional Health's system goals and shared values.
- Engage in education and mentorship of residents and medical students.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to the academic growth of the department through teaching and collaboration.
Requirements
- Board Eligible or Board Certified in General Surgery
- Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care, Acute Care Surgery, or Trauma is ideal but not required
- Minimum 3 years of independent Emergency General Surgery experience in a hospital setting
- NYS Medical License (or eligibility)
- Demonstrated expertise in managing complex surgical emergencies
- Passion for patient-centered, team-based care
- Strong communication skills and clinical judgment under pressure
- Commitment to education and professional growth
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Education Department (NYSED) licenses/certifications
- Physician - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
- New York State Education Department (NYSED)
- Physical Requirements: L - Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly; requires occasional walking, standing or squatting.
