This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working shifts varying between 12:00 a.m. — 11:30 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Provide duties that assist in providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET suctioning.
- Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks.
- Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
- Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
- Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
- Auxiliary equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.
- Auxiliary with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
- Transport patients and specimens.
- Auxiliary with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for patient privacy.
- Perform fluid/drug administration.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program
- Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of hire
- Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program
Qualifications
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Certification
- One year of experience as an EMT-P
- Experience with IV’s
Physical Requirements
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
