About the role

The Emergency Department Nurse at Kaiser Permanente in Seattle Capitol Hill works in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. The position is part-time and shifts are evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Using the nursing process, assesses and plans care for patients.
  • Develops and implements a plan of care for patients.
  • Communicates with patients and families/significant others regarding their health care goals and interventions.
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of patients' responses to care.
  • Identifies and addresses patients' psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs.
  • Affords patients and families/significant others with information before interventions.
  • Assesses patient lifestyle risk factors and integrates health promotion and preventive care.
  • Ensures a safe environment for patients and adheres to infection control standards.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Registered Nurse License (Washington) required at hire OR Compact License: Registered Nurse required at hire.
  • Basic Life Support required at hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required at hire.
  • Communication, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Ambulatory care nursing experience.
  • Primary nursing or case-management experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Emergency department nursing experience.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support at hire.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates understanding of the physiologic and psychological effects of normal aging.
  • Effective communication skills with specific age populations.
  • Identifies learning needs and participates in educational programs.
  • Collaborates, communicates, and coordinates with other health care team members.
  • Assesses the needs of designated patients requiring hospitalization.
  • Communicates recognition of patients and family/significant others psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs.
  • Orients patients and family/significant others to the role of the professional nurse and other health care team members.
  • Develops an educational component for each nursing care plan.
  • Encourages patient compliance with therapeutic and medical regimens.
  • Adheres to KFHPW documentation standards.
  • Participates in staff orientation and student education activities.
  • Collaborates with managers in completing the process for self and colleague/team performance reviews.
  • Ensures quality of care through development, implementation, and evaluation of professional nursing standards.
  • Participates in professional activities.
  • Participates in nursing research and incorporates research findings into nursing practice.
  • Adheres to KFHPW personnel policies and maintains a high standard of professional work habits.
