Under the direction of the ED Executive Director/VP Emergency Services and ED Manager II/Unit Directors, the ED Business Administrative Manager oversees budget planning, equipment and technology allocation, and material management for the Emergency Department, IAC, and other cost center groups managed by the VP of Emergency Services. This role ensures the Emergency Department’s environment of care meets regulatory standards and manages 24/7 operations of the ED’s HUSC team, as well as scheduling operations.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • At least three (3) years of recent supervisor/management experience
  • Demonstrated experience partnering and providing consultation to leadership and employees
  • Experience supervising staff in a healthcare institution or similar complex organization
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills to evaluate program/staff needs, solve problems, and train staff
  • Ability to research, collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the internet to locate information, evaluate products, and provide cost comparisons
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, and quickly on multiple assignments with competing deadlines
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., Joint Commission, Title XXII, CalOSHA, State Department of Health, State Fire Marshall, and Infection Control Standards)
  • Skills to recognize facility malfunctions or unsafe practices and effectively communicate department needs
  • Expert knowledge of standard procurement procedures and medical supplies/equipment
  • Ability to resolve problems with minimal negative impact
  • Strong presentation, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional analytical, administrative, and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including writing clear emails, memoranda, project proposals, technical reports, policies, and procedures

  • Knowledge of personnel administration, including recruitment, hiring, training, development, coaching, evaluation, and disciplinary action

  • Commitment to courteous, sincere, and sensitive customer service and quality-based outcomes
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and their enforcement, including planning, organizing, and evaluating work
  • Physical ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to push/pull wheeled equipment on smooth surfaces
  • Fine motor dexterity to operate computers, keyboards, and mice
  • Ability to hear and speak well for direct and phone communication
  • Ability to work adaptably, flexibly, and maintain composure during stressful conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of related experience in a healthcare setting with progressive responsibility in fiscal and personnel management
  • Knowledge of the healthcare field, particularly in a hospital and emergency department environment

About the Department

Emergency Medicine provides Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma care for over 33 of California’s 58 counties. UC Davis Health is home to state-of-the-art emergency care, including the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in inland Northern California (verified by the American College of Surgeons). The department serves approximately 70,000 patients annually, offering a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, 42 residents, and 26 specialists across medical and surgical disciplines. The Emergency Department operates 24/7, equipped to handle critical and acute illnesses and injuries.

Pay

$8,775.00 - $208,500.00 per month

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (variable)
