Emergency Department Manager

NHS Western Isles is seeking an Emergency Department Manager to lead our dynamic Emergency Department in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

About the role

You will provide 24-hour clinical, operational, and professional leadership for the Emergency Department at Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway. This role involves driving service improvement, workforce development, quality, and patient safety while maintaining an advanced clinical role. You will influence emergency and unscheduled care across the Outer Hebrides, supporting multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, person-centred care in a unique remote and rural setting.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Emergency Department, ensuring 24-hour clinical and operational oversight.
• Drive service improvement, workforce development, and quality initiatives.
• Maintain an advanced clinical role within the department.
• Support and influence emergency and unscheduled care across the Outer Hebrides.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
• Ensure governance, assurance, and patient safety standards are met.

Requirements

• Demonstrated proficiency in leadership, management, and clinical governance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in a senior nursing or clinical leadership role.
• Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practices.
• Registration with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme) will be required.

Pay

£65,125 - £70,303 per annum, plus a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,461 per annum.

Schedule

36 hours per week, permanent post.
