About the role

This position is remote and strongly prefers candidates residing in Virginia. Candidates from surrounding states, Maryland or Washington, DC, may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote student success through a comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Guides all learners in academic success, social and emotional development, and career and college planning and readiness.
  • Provides preventive services and responds to identified student needs.
  • Maintains a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4).
  • Works independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
  • Supports standardized testing program, parent education, and staff development.
  • Advocates for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings.
  • Focuses students and families on goal setting and academic planning for college and career readiness.
  • May travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree AND Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement
  • School Counselor License
  • Master’s degree in school counseling
  • Experience with distance learning
  • Advanced coursework in counseling and administration

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Web-based search engines, and database systems
  • Flexible schedule; Ability to travel as needed
