About the role

Under the general supervision of school administration, Elementary Behavior Support Personnel provide classroom-based support to promote safe, consistent, and productive learning environments. This role focuses on proactive strategies, prevention, and in-the-moment support to help students access instruction and meet school expectations. Support is provided across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3, including working with students who demonstrate more intensive behavioral needs.

Responsibilities

  • Implement behavior supports and intervention plans as designed by the school team
  • Support students in accessing instruction and participating in classroom routines and expectations
  • Use proactive strategies to prevent escalation and support positive behavior throughout the school day
  • Provide real-time support during challenging situations using trained de-escalation and safety procedures
  • Aid in academic engagement as it relates to behavioral supports
  • Collect and document data on student progress and behavior
  • Work as part of a team with teachers, administrators, and support staff to implement and maintain consistent supports
  • Maintain a safe and structured environment for students and staff

Requirements

  • Regular attendance and active participation in district-led trainings provided by the SFRD Behavior Team is required
  • Must successfully complete Safety Care (or district-approved crisis prevention and intervention training) and maintain active certification
  • Maintain current status in all required safety and behavior support trainings as assigned by the district
  • Demonstrate the ability to implement trained prevention, de-escalation, and safety procedures to support student and staff safety

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with students and school teams
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in high-stress or crisis situations
  • Ability to follow and implement established plans (i.e. Behavior Intervention Plans) and strategies with consistency
  • Basic computer skills for data collection and reporting

Pay

$19.02 per hour (2026-27 Support Salary Table) [Promotions result in a 5% minimum increase]

Schedule

5.9 hours per day/174 days per year
