Electrophysiology Technologist

About the Role

Performs daily operations in the Electrophysiology Laboratory, providing technical support during electrophysiology and pacemaker procedures, and appropriate patient care. Meets qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range of the assigned clinical area.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily procedures in the electrophysiology laboratory, including radio-frequency catheter ablations, pacemaker implants, ICD implants, tilt table tests, direct current cardioversions, and intracardiac ultrasound-Doppler.
• Maintains and troubleshoots electrophysiology laboratory equipment to assure operability and safety; calibrates equipment and performs routine preventative maintenance procedures.
• Performs emergency therapeutic maneuvers during procedures.
• Initiates life support techniques in the event of cardiac and respiratory arrest, including CPR, defibrillation, temporary pacemaker insertion, and airway management.
• Assists the physician in patient preparation, during the procedure, and provides all appropriate services to safely and efficiently complete patient procedures.
• Provides assistance in evaluation and analysis of pulse generators during pacemaker procedures and pacemaker clinic.
• Analyzes and files electrocardiographic data utilizing digital computer analysis systems and paper filing systems.
• Practices sterile technique preparing for procedures, including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping, and setup of instrument table.
• Responsible for primary and secondary hemostasis during and after procedures.
• Participates in departmental quality control and quality assurance initiatives and Joint Commission-mandated educational programs.
• Performs appropriate billing for services rendered or equipment used as related to electrophysiology.
• Assists with the training and orientation within the department.
• Assists with ongoing clinical research trials pertinent to the electrophysiology laboratory.

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Graduate from a Specialty Training Program (Required).
• An associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field will be accepted in lieu of the specialty training program, but the candidate must have at least two years of healthcare experience in addition to their associate's degree.
• A bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field will be accepted in lieu of the specialty training degree; healthcare experience is preferred but not required if the candidate has a healthcare-related bachelor's degree.
• Applicants who hold the ARRT certification as a Radiology Tech are required to maintain the ARRT certification.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within 6 months of hire (Geisinger Medical Center campus only).

Qualifications

• Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist within 2 years of hire – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
• Basic Life Support Certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 6 months – American Heart Association (AHA).
• Certified Radiology Technologist – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Pay

This position qualifies for a $12,000 sign-on bonus paid over two years. Certain stipulations do apply.
