Electronics Technician (Antarctica)

About the role

The Electronics Technician performs basic diagnosis repairs and modifications to electronics systems. They assist other Technicians in the setup, maintenance, and storage of airfield systems and deep-field camp systems that support aviation operations and weather observing. This position deploys to McMurdo Station, Antarctica to conduct work locally.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs electronics systems, including sensors, test equipment, and NAVAIDS, communications, and meteorology systems.
• Monitors and reports on system readiness, capabilities, limitations, and reliability.
• Documents and archives maintenance actions.
• Ensures work center safety and equipment verification; maintains tool inventory and CPR certification.
• Sets up, maintains, and repairs NAVAIDS and communications systems; ensures proper equipment installation and compliance with frequency management.
• Repairs and maintains meteorology systems, and performs maintenance at remote locations.
• Attends safety training, maintains a safe work area, and engages in self-development through available training.

Requirements

• Able to obtain a T1 Clearance through the government customer.
• Pass internal background checks.
• A valid passport is required and is reimbursable.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Able to perform job duties in extreme, cold, dark, work environments.
• Pass medical and dental examination prior to deployment; expenses are reimbursable.
• Knowledge and experience performing electronics repair, maintenance, and checkout.
• Ability to follow directions and work independently or with a team.
• Ability to be reliable in attendance/punctuality.
• Ability to practice and promote required safety standards.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to persuade others to accept recommendations and to negotiate to find mutually acceptable solutions.

Qualifications

• Laborer: High School Diploma or GED.
• Electronics Technician Maintenance I: High School diploma or GED and Formal electronics training from a Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications, or two (2) year electronics apprentice program.
• Electronics Technician Maintenance II: High School diploma or GED and Formal electronics training from a Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications, or four (4) year electronics apprentice program.
• Electronics Technician III: High School diploma or GED and Formal electronics training from a Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications, or four (4) year electronics apprentice program.

Pay

The estimated pay range for this role is $24 to $36 per hour, with the final offer contingent on location, skillset, and experience.

Schedule

This position deploys to McMurdo Station, Antarctica to conduct work locally.
